BARNEY LAKE CONSERVATION AREA

13200 BLOCK, Signe RoAD, Mount Vernon, WA &
4500 BLOCK, E College way, Mount Vernon, WA

This restored wetland provides a unique natural habitat to experience Bald Eagles, Great Blue Herons, Trumpeter Swans, Coho salmon, and other wildlife - right on the edge of town! Made up largely of grassy meadows, this area frequently experiences minor to moderate flooding during the rainy season, so be sure to prepare for the conditions and expect the unexpected.

Barney Lake Conservation Area is open to pedestrian access, but there are not any developed trails or access points at this time.

PUD is working on improving a water transmission pipeline from Judy Reservoir to Mount Vernon. This work has temporarily cut-off accessible portions of the Barney Lake Conservation Area. Public access to Barney Lake is expected to reopen in the near future, with plans for increased access, signage, and trails. Learn more at Skagit Land Trust’s website.
